A Telford mum who devotes much of her time to selflessly helping others has won a Christmas meat hamper from local butcher G.N. Badley & Sons.

Simone Pennell, from Ketley Bank, was nominated by her long-time friend Natalie Norry, who described her as an ‘incredibly kind’ person.

Natalie said: “This year has been so hard for so many people, but the Pennell family have had to endure so much on top of everything else going on in the world.”

Simone, who has fibromyalgia, raised more than £10,000 through crowdfunding to help her sister-in-law Kay after she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in three years.

Sadly, despite receiving cell therapy from a specialist clinic in Spain, Kay lost her fight earlier this year at the age of just 43, leaving behind two young boys.

Natalie said: “Simone was so close to Kay, helping to care for her and her boys.

“Christmas is going to be so different for the family this year, and my hope was that winning the hamper would put a smile on their face during a difficult time.”

Simone was joined by Kay’s father Terry when she collected the hamper from the G.N. Badley & Sons team in Trench.

She said: “I’m really touched that Natalie nominated me – she is a wonderful friend. I’m not very good at receiving things like this; I’m more interested in helping others. But I’m so grateful for this, it means a lot.”

The hamper includes a 1.5kg bacon-wrapped turkey breast, a 1kg gammon joint, 12 pigs in blankets, a pork, sage and onion stuffing tray, large pork pie, plus a dozen pork sausages, and a dozen rashers of dry cured back bacon.

Simon Badley, managing director of G.N. Badley & Sons in Gibbons Road, Trench, said: “We know that it’s been difficult for many people this year, and that for some families Christmas won’t be quite the way they wanted.

“So we thought it was important to be able to put a smile on people’s faces – and reward someone who has gone the extra mile over the past few months, and deserved a special treat.”
