Happy New Year, a message from our CEO

Happy New Year, a message from our CEO

Happy new year everyone – let’s hope that 2022 proves to be both happy and healthy, for all of us.

This time last year, we thought that the worst of the Covid restrictions were behind us, but as we all know, it didn’t exactly work out that way, did it?

We want to thank each and every one of you - our loyal customers old and new - for the overwhelming support you have shown through these continuingly unpredictable times.

The Christmas season presented something of a challenge, as we juggled the needs of those who wanted to buy early and freeze their meat to guarantee supplies for the big day, with those who preferred to stick to the festive tradition of picking up their supplies in store at the last minute.

Hopefully we got the balance right! It was a real challenge behind the scenes to make sure that the well-publicised delays in UK supply chains didn’t impact on our supplies.

We saw a rise of more than 50% in people choosing to buy and freeze their festive turkeys. Sales of rolled turkey crown were up by more than 30% as part of a general trend towards buying much smaller joints.

Every step of the way, we put customers’ needs at the forefront of our plans, which is why our service and product range has evolved significantly over the past couple of years.

For 2022, we will be continuing to offer a home delivery service to the majority of TF postcode areas, as well as our increasingly popular ‘click and collect’ option which can be booked through the website.

We’ve also increased the amount of eco-friendly packaging in our products over the past year with new chilled boxes – and we have more innovations along similar lines planned for 2022 which will reduce our carbon footprint even further.

It’s been a challenging year, but there have still been plenty of highlights. For example:

  • Our inaugural Telford Sausage Week celebrations culminated in a fantastic tasting day in the town centre, which saw our pork leek and stilton recipe being crowned thew town’s favourite.
  • We were delighted to be able to donate supplies, helped by generous customers, to Holy Trinity Church in Wrockwardine Wood for its Christmas Eve food packages – giving something back to those most in need.
  • We gave away one of our festive food hampers to Sally Bingley, one of our regular customers, whose name was first out of the hat in our Christrmas giveaway. Lois Miller and Michael Clarke were also winners in giveaways we ran during National Butchers’ Week.
  • We supported two competitions in the Shropshire Star and Express & Star newspapers – a BBQ offer during the build-up to the Euro football finals, and another meaty giveaway in the build-up to Christmas.
  • We continue to be a supporter of the #smallbusinesssaturday today campaign - every time you help a local business, you're probably helping their locally-based suppliers too. It can make all the difference!
  • We were chosen as the preferred meat supplier for the newly relaunched Hummingbird Café at Meeting Point House in Telford town centre, which has been completely revamped with a completely new menu.
  • Our new 25-piece BBQ packs proved to be a big hit when we launched them in the spring – keep an eye open for their return in 2022.

As we always say, if there’s something else that you think we could offer which isn’t currently on our menu, please let us know and we’ll do our best to oblige.

We’re back open on January 5th. Here’s a full list of our opening hours over the holiday period: https://badleysbutchers.co.uk/pages/christmas-new-year-opening-hours-2021
